Mission: Clean Stream

As you are out and about in early Spring, you may notice green and red mesh bags along the roadways, in the parks and along the rivers and streams in St Charles County. These will be gathered by the hundreds of families, scout and church groups and other volunteers who scour the county to clean up trash. Every bit of trash picked up by these super heroes is a bit of trash that doesn’t make its way into our rivers and streams. Trash in our waterways is more than just unsightly. It pollutes our drinking water and destroys the natural habitat of plants and animals that rely on clean, fresh water just like we do.
2022 marked the 20th anniversary of Mission: Clean Stream in St Charles County. Over the past 20+ years, thousands of volunteers have picked up an average of 10 tons of trash each year. Historic dumping sites have been cleared of tons of metal and hundreds of tires. Our amazing volunteers and dedicated city and county employees have made our county a better place. Check out this video if you want to know more about what is involved in cleaning up a stream. We hope to see you soon!
