2026 Martin Luther King Day of Service Clean Up – Academy Sherman Park

This year the the Annual Greg Poleski Clean up will take place on Martin Luther King Day’s Day of Service.  It will be an urban clean up in North St Louis City in one of the communities hardest hit by the tornado.  Check-in at 8:30.  Safety talk at 9 am.  Clean up will run until noon.  You will be notified by email of the precise location once it has been confirmed.  Remember that January clean ups are particularly affected by weather and conditions on the ground so we often have to make last minute changes to ensure the safety of our volunteers and the success of the clean up.

This clean up has been made possible by a grant from the Mississippi Rivers Cities and Towns Initiative as part of a plastic reduction program.  You can download the Marine Debris Tracker application and start entering plastic pollution data wherever you are.  We will log as much plastic waste a possible from this clean up.    https://debristracker.org/

2026 Greg Poleski MLK Day of Service

Each year, the Greenway Network volunteer crew gathers to honor our founder Greg Poleski for a clean up. We traditionally do this on the Martin Luther King Day of Service in January. Scheduling things in January can be very difficult. We need to make changes due to weather and/or conditions on the ground. These changes may result in a delay or even a change of location. So it is difficult to state precisely where we will be gathering.

This year we are working on scheduling an urban clean up to continue helping some of the communities hardest hit by the tornado. However, we do not yet have the specific details. We do know that if the clean up proceeds, we will begin registration at 8:30 with a safety talk at 9 am. Dress for the weather. Wear sturdy boots and shoes. Bring a water bottle. Be prepared for picking up trash, loading dumpsters, assisting citizens with trash or moving tires and other heavy objects.

In the case the event is cancelled due to weather or river conditions, it will take place on April 11.
